Meet Pottsy: The Heart Behind The Painting Pot

If you’ve visited The Painting Pot recently, you may have spotted a small green friend watching over the studio. His name is Pottsy and he’s become something very special. But Pottsy isn’t just a cute character. He has a story and a purpose.

How Pottsy Came to Be

Pottsy arrived in the most unexpected way. One day, while unpacking a delivery of pottery, we discovered him tucked away quietly between the boxes, wide-eyed, a little nervous, and covered in dust from his travels.

He didn’t have a family. He didn’t have a home.So of course… he stayed. Now Pottsy lives right here at The Painting Pot in Selby, surrounded by colour, creativity, and the sound of happy painters. And honestly? We can’t imagine the studio without him.

Why We Created Our Own Studio Character

There’s a reason Pottsy exists and it’s an important one. In the world of pottery painting and children’s parties, many studios use popular licensed characters for themed events. But copyright restrictions make it difficult (and often risky) for small businesses to use well-known characters. So instead of relying on characters we don’t own…we created our own.

  • Pottsy is 100% original.
  • He belongs to The Painting Pot.
  • And he represents everything we believe in.

That means:

  • We can use him safely in events and workshops
  • We can build stories around him
  • Children can connect with him in a way that feels unique to our studio

He isn’t just decoration. He’s part of our identity.

Pottsy’s Real Purpose

Pottsy wasn’t just created to be cute. He was created to help children feel safe. Some children arrive at the studio feeling shy. Some feel anxious in new environments. Some are neurodivergent and need a softer introduction to new spaces. Pottsy gives them something familiar to focus on.

He helps:

  • Nervous children settle
  • Younger painters feel confident
  • Big feelings feel a little smaller
  • First-time visitors feel welcome

Children often talk to him. Wave to him. Ask where he sleeps. Tell him about their pottery, and that’s exactly what we hoped for.

More Than a Mascot

Pottsy has grown into something much bigger than we expected.

He now features in:

  • Studio signage
  • Colouring sheets
  • Stickers
  • Story displays
  • Special event designs
  • Workshop materials

And we’re working on even more exciting ideas for him in the future because Pottsy represents creativity, kindness, imagination and belonging, values that sit right at the heart of The Painting Pot.

Come Paint With Pottsy

If you haven’t met him yet, come and say hello. He’ll be watching proudly while you paint. He might even inspire your next design and if you see a little green character with rainbow horns and a paintbrush… you’ll know you’re in the right place.
